2003 Merlot
The stream of success continues from this former Chateau Ste. Michelle winemaker. Out of her quaint place in Manson, Wash., Katy Perry sends out a massively dense Merlot with lots of barrel influence but lots of fruit, too. Milk chocolate, cinnamon, freshly scraped vanilla bean and soy sauce dominate the nose. A complex profile of dark blackberry and cola stands out in the mouth, joined by tannins with some grip and black licorice and bittersweet chocolate in the finish. Rated Outstanding - Wine Press Northwest.
2003 Malbec
Kate Perry has a flair with out-of-the-mainstream varieties, and her tannin management with this big Bordeaux grape stands out. Its two years in French oak doesn't overshadow the ripe blackberry, huckleberry and sage aromas, it is very rich and leathery on the palate. Blackberries are met by huge acidity, very smooth tannins, and a mixture of raspberries and black walnut on the finish. Rated Outstanding - Wine Press Northwest.
2005 Sauvignon Blanc
Katy Perry coaxed New Zealand-style qualities from this crop off of Evergreen Vineyard near George, Wash. Gooseberry, cat pea, Asian pear, juniper berries, lychee and honeysuckle perk up your olfactory nerve. There's a return of the pear, mixed with star fruit and lemon that make this strongly flavored from front to back with enjoyable acidity and a dry finish. Rated Outstanding - Wine Press Northwest.
2005 Malbec
Owner/winemaker Katy Perry continues to shine with a Bordeaux variety that is gaining traction with Washington winemakers and consumers. This is a superb, hedonistic red wine with aromas of blackberries, plums, mocha, black olives and blueberries. On the palate are big, bold, dark flavors of chocolate-covered cherries. Supple tannins made this wine even more hedonistic. We can imagine enjoying this with barbecued ribs. Rated Outstanding - Wine Press Northwest.
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
A dense, dark and chewy full-throttles Cabernet Sauvignon that also shows a real level of poise and balance. Deep flavors of blackberry and cassis, with some briars, coffee, chocolate and cigar notes. Big enough for heavy dishes while still nimble enough for pates. 90 Points Wine Enthustiast.
2005 Profundo
An assemblage by Manson, WA winemaker Katy Perry ended up with a winning formula of Cab Sauv (35%), Merlot (30%), Malbec (30%), Cab Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The great equalizer was 22 months in French oak. There’s a cheery greeting from cherries, cola and crushed leaf. Silky chocolate and cherry flavors include vanilla bean. Balanced tannins and nice acidity make it quaffable and cellar worthy. 90 points - Wine Enthusiast. Rated Outstanding - Northwest Wine Press.
2005 Cabernet Franc
Rated 89 points - Wine Spectator.
2006 Viognier
This is a new wine for owner/winemaker Katy Perry, and she's done a great job of capturing the essence of this fickle grape while retaining all-important balance. This wine opens with aromas of sweet spices, jasmine flowers, minerals and fresh-squeezed orange juice. On the palate is an explosion of fruit flavors, including oranges, apples, papayas and pineapples. It has good weight, solid acidity and a round mouth feel. It is made from estate grapes grown near Lake Chelan. We think it would pair with lighter dishes, such as grilled chicken or pasta tossed with grilled vegetables and olive oil. Rated Excellent - Wine Press Northwest.
2006 Chardonnay
Katy Perry, former winemaker for Ste. Michelle and Tsillan, launched this boutique operation in the Lake Chelan area. The wines so far have been nothing short of superb. She and her husband, Milum, have been planting vines on their eight-acre estate. This Chardonnay is a fantastic example of her handiwork. It opens with aromas of lemon, fresh apples and pineapple cake, followed by zesty flavors of bright citrus. Zippy acidity provides brightness and gives this white wine food-friendliness for a wide range of dishes. Rated Outstanding - Wine Press Northwest.
